The sequel to Ridley Scott’s Best Picture winner Gladiator has been set. Gladiator 2 will hit theaters on November 22nd 2024, just ahead of Thanksgiving weekend.
While you won’t see Russell Crowe get back into chiseled form to return as Maximus, what you will get is Best Picture nominee Paul Mescal (Aftersun) leading the cast. The story takes place years later, and centers on Lucius, who is now a grown man heavily impacted by the sacrifice made by Maximus who rescued his family from Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix), who murdered his own father and seized the throne.
Scott will return to direct Gladiator 2 from a script by David Scarpa, reuniting with him after 2017’s All the Money in the World and Napoleon, which hits Apple later this year.
