‘Eric’: Benedict Cumberbatch To Star In Netflix Limited Series About A Puppeteer In Search For His Son

Benedict Cumberbatch has spent so much time in the world of TV that when he signs on for a new prestige series, it’s not really a shock anymore. His next one, a limited series titled Eric, will be for Netflix and considering it hails from acclaimed writer Abi Morgan, it has accolades written all over it.

In Eric, Cumberbatch plays a renowned puppeteer from a popular kids’ show who hits his lowest point when his son disappears. With nothing left to lose, he sets off to find his son and reclaim his life…accompanied by a 7-foot-tall blue puppet also named Eric. The series takes place in 1980s New York.

Cumberbatch is no stranger to the small screen, having won acclaim for his roles in Sherlock, Patrick Melrose, and more. Morgan is the screenwriter behind such films as Shame, The Iron Lady, and Suffragette.

Next up for Cumberbatch is Wes Anderson’s The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar, also on Netflix. There’s also a good chance he shows up as Doctor Strange in one of Marvel’s many films arriving this year. [Variety]
