Check Out The Trailer for The First Film Shot In Space, ‘The Challenge’

If you follow movie news (you’re here, so I’m assuming you do) then you undoubtedly heard the drama surrounding Tom Cruise being beaten in space race 2.0 by the Russians. America’s favorite immortal movie star wanted to be the first to shoot a film in space on the ISS (International Space Station) and, much like the first time around, the Russian’s beat us to it. It wasn’t a dog they sent up this time though, from the looks of this trailer it was a highly skilled film crew who knew what they were doing. The resultant film ‘The Challenge’ appears to show that there’s some things that can’t be captured via green screen and camera tricks.

While the trailer below is in Russian, it’s not the dialogue we really want to look at if we’re being honest. I am honestly blown away by a few things here, first it looks amazing. I know, you’d think “That’s the whole point” but there were SO many unknowns going on here and at the end of the day it all seems to have worked out, if there’s any CG in this trailer I couldn’t tell you where it is. The second thing, and this may have just been me, but there are going to be a lot of sick people if this thing hits IMAX, just looking at the footage on my laptop screen had me with a bit of vertigo watching things spinning almost unnaturally.

Lastly, I will say there is a real difference to shooting this in space for realsies, I can’t quite put my finger on it…it’s almost like that uncanny valley you get with some CG but seeing this there is definitely something more authentic about the footage. Tell you what, instead of me failing to describe it take a look for yourself below and let us know what you think in the comments.
