What’s a good way to celebrate an awesome showing at the recent Video Game Awards? How about a series order from Amazon Prime Video? Deadline confirms that Prime Video has given a series order to their God of War television series, produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon Studios in association with PlayStation Productions.
The God of War series is coming from The Expanse creators Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus. Osby and Fergus also did that incredible world building on Children of Men, earning themselves an Oscar nomination. They also co-wrote Iron Man. The Wheel of Time executive producer/showrunner Rafe Judkins is part of this deal, too, acting as showrunner.
Arguably the most popular Sony video game franchise, God of War has been around since 2005, with its lead character Kratos initially the Greek god of war. But the television series will actually be adapting 2018’s game, which ditches the Greek mythology aspect in favor of Norse mythology.
[God of War] follows Kratos, the God of War, who, after exiling himself from his blood-soaked past in ancient Greece, hangs up his weapons forever in the Norse realm of Midgard. When his beloved wife dies, Kratos sets off on a dangerous journey with his estranged son to spread her ashes from the highest peak—his wife’s final wish.”
“Kratos soon realizes the journey is an epic quest in disguise, one which will test the bonds between father and son, and force Kratos to battle new Gods and monsters for the fate of the world.”
Hopefully, more details on this are to come soon. Of all the video game-based shows coming up, including The Last of Us and Twisted Metal, this is the one I’m most interested in because of the mythology aspect.
