‘Champions’ Trailer: Woody Harrelson Leads A Team With Disabilities In Bobby Farrelly’s Sports Comedy

One half of the Farrelly Brothers. A movie about a sports team with disabilities. This sounds like a disaster waiting to happen when you factor in their resume. But the Farrellys have gone their separate ways, and the insensitive films of the past appear to be in the rear view mirror. Following Peter’s success with Green Book and The Greatest Beer Run Ever, now it’s Bobby’s turn with sports comedy, Champions, starring Woody Harrelson.

Harrelson stars as a pro basketball coach who gets himself into trouble and has to perform community service. I don’t know where all of these judges who force the guilty to coach sports teams come from, but that’s what Harrelson’s character has to do. The team sucks, of course, and they are comprised of players with intellectual disabilities.

Joining Harrelson in the cast are Kaitlin Olson, Ernie Hudson, Cheech Marin, and Matt Cook.

Look, all one has to do is watch the Dumb & Dumber movies to see how the Farrellys would’ve tackled this material before. This appears considerably more respectful, but then we’ll see when Champions opens on March 24th 2023.
