‘When You Finish Saving The World’ Trailer: Julianne Moore And Finn Wolfhard Lead Jesse Eisenberg’s Directorial Debut

When You Finish Saving the World marks the feature debut of Jesse Eisenberg as writer and director. And like many of the choices he’s made throughout his career, it’s a bit of an odd duck, but features terrific lead performances. The film stars Julianne Moore and Finn Wolfhard as a mother and son who awkwardly seek out replacements for the other, hoping to fill what’s missing in their relationship.

Debuting earlier this year at Sundance, our reviewer was less enthusiastic about it than other critics, saying “the story’s tonal imbalance is more narratively confusing than intentional.”

The material is close to Eisenberg, however, beginning life as an original audio drama that he created. His friend and Zombieland co-star Emma Stone is aboard as a producer, as well.

When You Finish Saving the World opens January 20th 2023.

Evelyn and her oblivious son Ziggy seek out replacements for each other as Evelyn desperately tries to parent an unassuming teenager at her shelter while Ziggy fumbles through his pursuit of a brilliant young woman at school.
