No, Jesse Eisenberg isn’t returning to the role he made iconic as Mark Zuckerberg for Aaron Sorkin’s sequel, The Social Reckoning. He’s far too busy continuing to establish himself as a top-flight filmmaker. And following the critical acclaim of A Real Pain, Eisenberg’s next film is a community theater comedy, The Debut, for which A24 has dropped the first trailer.
Oscar winner Julianne Moore and Oscar nominee Paul Giamatti star in The Debut, about a shy woman unexpectedly cast in an original production for a small community theater. Rather than being intimidated, she is transformed into a zealous method actor, under the sway of the charismatic director.
Eisenberg wrote, directed, produced, and also had a role alongside Halle Bailey, Havana Rose Liu, Bernadette Peters, Bonnie Milligan, Colton Ryan, Lilli Cooper, Maulik Pancholy, and Cara Buono. That’s one Hell of a cast, and good to see the legendary Peters back in front of the big screen.
SYNOPSIS: When Mona Friedman is cast in a bit part at a small community theater, she transforms from a shy, unassuming housewife into a zealous method actor willing to do anything to protect the artistic integrity of her marginal role—even if it means waging war against the show’s domineering director.
Eisenberg’s pal Emma Stone, who he starred in two Zombieland movies with, is aboard as a producer along with her husband, Dave McCrary. Stone and McCrary also produced Eisenberg’s directorial debut, When You Finish Saving the World.
