‘M3GAN’ Trailer: James Wan Introduces A New Killer Doll That Also Has Killer Dance Moves

Who doesn’t love a good horror about a bad killer doll? From Puppet Master to Chucky to Annabelle, murderous toys have been slicing up victims for decades. And now James Wan, who created the last on that list already, is back with another: M3GAN, which looks like a welcome addition to the canon.

In what looks like a cross between Small Wonder, Google self-driving cars, and an Elon Musk fever dream, M3gan is the high-tech, lifelike companion toy created by roboticist Gemma (Get Out‘s Allison Williams) and tested out on her orphaned niece, Cady (Violet McGraw). And it works too well. M3gan becomes Cady’s friend, playmate, and eager protector, with killer dance moves and knife-wielding skills.

This looks like a self-aware blast that’ll be mix humor and gore in equal measure. Serious Child’s Play vibes.

The film is directed by Gerard Johnston, with a script by James Wan and Akela Cooper. Too bad it’s not part of Conjuring Universe where we could see an actual showdown with Annabelle or better yet, the Warrens!

M3GAN opens in theaters on January 13th 2023.
