‘Squid Game’ Star Lee Jung-jae Joins ‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ Series

Remember Squid Game? Of course you do; it was the series we all were binging like crazy during the pandemic, obsessed with its deadly games and commentary on capitalism. The show’s star, Lee Jung-jae also broke out here in a big way with numerous accolades for his performance. The reward for that? Well, not only will there be a Squid Game sequel, but Lee is headed to a galaxy far far away, joining Star Wars series The Acolyte.

Deadline confirms that Lee Jung-jae has joined Amandla Stenberg and the recently-cast Jodie Turner-Smith in The Acolyte. The series by Leslye Headland takes place during the High Republic era, hundreds of years before the Skywalker Saga. It’s unclear what Lee’s role will be, but the title does suggest a Force user learning from a Master, be they on the side of Light or Dark.

Yesterday I tweeted that with all of the toxicity out there Lucasfilm is tempting fate by casting all people of color. I hope they continue to piss these idiots off.

We’re still a long way off from The Acolyte‘s arrival, probably not until sometime in 2023 or early 2024.
