‘Amsterdam’ Trailer: David O. Russell’s 1930s Murder Mystery Stars Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, & John David Washington

Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, and John David Washington. In most cases, nobody needs to know anything else about whatever film they’re starring in together. But the movie is Amsterdam, and it’s by divisive filmmaker David O. Russell. While he’s always able to put together starry A-list casts like this, and often finds himself in the awards discussion, Russell has a sketchy background and his movies tend not to age well. Anybody still talking about Joy? Or Silver Linings Playbook?

So going into the new trailer for Amsterdam, you probably have an idea whether it’s for you or not. Set in the 1930s, this quirky caper centers on three best friends, two soldiers and a nurse, who are falsely accused of murder and must clear their names.

The supporting cast is incredible with Chris Rock, Robert De Niro, Anya Taylor-Joy, Zoe Saldana, Mike Myers, Michael Shannon, Timothy Olyphant, Andrea Riseborough, Taylor Swift, Matthias Schoenaerts, Alessandro Nivola, and Rami Malek.

This one’s going to be interesting, just to see if it can stand out in a very crowded awards season field. Amsterdam opens on October 7th.
