Giancarlo Esposito Has Met With Marvel And Wants To Play Professor X Of The X-Men

The X-Men are coming to the MCU. Well, you could say they’ve already arrived, in a way, thanks to the appearance of Patrick Stewart’s Charles Xavier in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. But they’ve yet to officially debut, despite constant rumors about who will play which of the popular mutants. Well, Giancarlo Esposito has done pretty much everything there is to do except star in a Marvel movie. However, he is clearly on their radar.

Esposito was at the Superhero Car Show and Comic-Con event in Texas over the weekend and confirmed (via CountdownCityGeeks) what I think we all suspected: that he’s met with Marvel about a potential future role…

“I have not worked for Marvel yet, [but] I’ve been in a room with them and talked to them,” Esposito said.

Okay, no shocker there. Esposito is one of the best and most sought-after actors in the world. But the actor kept going, and while listing the many comic book roles he’s been rumored for, he also revealed the one that he actually wants…

“There’s talk of Magneto, there is talk of Doctor Freeze (probably Mr. Freeze from DC Comics?), there’s been talk of Doctor Doom, and there is Professor X…Pick one? I’m going to go with something that is a little bit different and go put it out into the universe it is Professor X.”

I think this would be amazing, really clever casting on Marvel’s part. Esposito has the kind of screen presence that would be perfect for Professor X. He can be a mentor but also authoritative and commanding when necessary. Make it happen, Marvel!
