Steven Yeun Reunites With Bong Joon Ho For ‘Mickey7’

It’s been one Hell of a run for Steven Yeun, beginning with his acclaimed performance in Burning, and continuing with other well-reviewed performances in Minari and The Humans. While he has Jordan Peele’s Nope coming up later this month, Yeun has already set his next project, and it’ll be a reunion with director Bong Joon Ho for Mickey7.

Deadline reports Yeun is the latest to join Bong’s sci-fi film, Mickey7, which features a starry group led by Robert Pattinson, Toni Collette, Mark Ruffalo, and Naomi Ackie. What an amazing cast to be part of, and for a film that sounds like a worthy follow-up to Bong’s Best Picture winner, Parasite.

Mickey7 is based on Edward Ashton’s novel and centers on Mickey, who is called an Expendable as he is a disposal employee helping humans populate the ice world Niflheim. When the missions are too dangerous, that’s when Mickey is sent in. Each time he dies, his body regenerates with most memories intact. He has six lives in total, which throws into question whether he’ll honor the terms of the deal. When he’s presumed dead, clone Mickey8 is activated, only for Mickey7 to return and if he is to stay alive he must hide his identity.

Yeun and Bong Joon Ho worked together previously on 2017’s Okja, which was one of those films that proved the ex-Walking Dead actor was destined for greater things.
