‘Squid Game’ Season 2 Confirmed, Will Introduce A Deadly New Doll

Are you ready for another round of “Red Light, Green Light”? To the surprise of absolutely nobody, a second season of dystopian series Squid Game has been confirmed by Netflix in a new teaser. The brief promo features Young-hee, the terrifying giant doll whose deadly gaze eradicated dozens of contestants in the first season.

Included was a message from creator, writer, director, and exec-producer Hwang Dong-Hyuk with a few details on what to look forward to…

“It took 12 years to bring the first season of ‘Squid Game’ to life last year. But it took 12 days for ‘Squid Game’ to become the most popular Netflix series ever. As the writer, director and producer of ‘Squid Game,’ a huge shout out to fans around the world. Thank you for watching and loving our show.”

Hwang revealed that protagonist Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) and the masked Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) would also return. We’ll also see Cheol-su, the “boyfriend” of Young-hee and he will undoubtedly be even deadlier. Will it be a different game, though?

Squid Game was a cultural phenomenon, really capturing the globe while we were all shut in lockdown. I’ve always found it funny that two Korean projects about economic disparity, Parasite and Squid Game, have become so popular. It’s almost like people are angry and want to see a story where the poor rise up and fight back.

Hwang has only just begun on a script for season 2, and is also working on a new movie. So we may not see Squid Game actually return until late 2023 at the earliest.
