‘Paddington 3’ Has An Official Title And A New Director

Whoever tells you the Paddington movies are just for kids is a liar and you should stop being friends with them. Incredible all around, lovely and thought-provoking and just plain joyful, the films appeal to pretty much everybody. Director and co-writer Paul King turned the story of the marmalade-sandwich-eating bear into a pair of cinematic classics so good they get shout-outs in other movies. And now a third one is on the way, but there’s reason for concern.

According to StudioCanal and HeyDay Films, it’ll be Dougal Wilson directing Paddington 3, titled Paddington in Peru. It’s unclear who will be writing, but we know it won’t be King who is busy developing Wonka starring Timothee Chalamet. However, King has no problem passing the torch to Wilson, who he says is more than capable…

“After ten years of working on the ‘Paddington’ movies, I feel absurdly protective of the little bear, and I’m delighted that Dougal will be there to hold his paw as he embarks on his third big-screen adventure,” said King. “Dougal’s work is never less than astounding: funny, beautiful, heartfelt, imaginative, and totally original. Aunt Lucy once asked us to ‘Please Look After This Bear.’ I know Dougal will do so admirably.”

Wilson has no feature film experience. He’s mainly known for his work in commercials and music videos. So this is a big step up, and it’s something he’s fully aware of…

Wilson said, “As a huge fan of the first two films, I am very excited (if not a little intimidated) to be continuing the story of Paddington. It’s a massive responsibility, but all my efforts will be focused on making a third film that honors the love so many people have for this very special bear.”

Shooting on Paddington in Peru begins next year. No details on the story, but considering Paddington Bear hails from “darkest Peru”, an extended origin story could be what we’re looking at.
