‘Paddington 4’ Lands ‘Veep’ Creator Armando Iannucci, Dougal Wilson May Return As Director

If the new Paddington movie suddenly turns into a political satire, you’ll have some idea why. Then again, it’ll almost certainly be better than the mediocre Paddington in Peru. Variety reports Veep creators Armando Iannucci and Simon Blackwell will write the fourth film, with Dougal Wilson in talks to return as director.

The Emmy-winning Iannucci is known for his sharp political satires, including the hit shows Veep and The Thick of It. He also directed the hilarious political comedies In the Loop and The Death of Stalin. His The Personal History of David Copperfield was pretty good, too.

The Paddington films, about everyone’s favorite marmalade-eating bear, are beloved but haven’t been the same without director Paul King and co-writer Simon Farnaby. Still, 2024’s Paddington in Peru (reviewed here) defied modest reviews to earn over $200M at the box office.

People love Paddington, as do I, and desperately want to see these films return to form. Maybe a jew jabs at the politics of the day wouldn’t hurt.
