Netflix Reveals ‘The Sandman’ Premiere Date, Teaser, And Character Posters

The Dreaming is coming to Netflix. As part of Geeked Week, Netflix has revealed a handfulof new character posters, and a brief announcement video confirming The Sandman‘s premiere on August 5th. The first season will consist of 11 episodes.

An adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s seminal comic book series, The Sandman stars Tom Sturridge as Morpheus, the ruler of The Dreaming and member of Endless. No, they’re not a rock band. They consist of Death, Delirium, Desire, Despair, Destiny, and Destruction, powerful forces that have existed since the beginning of time.

The series will find Morpheus escaping from a prison after 105 years, only to find his kingdom, The Dreaming, lost in decay. Morpheus must set out on a journey through dark fantasy to reclaim the necessary tools to rebuild his kingdom of imagination and dreams.

Gaiman co-created the series along with David Goyer and Allan Heinberg. Also in the cast are Gwendoline Christie as Lucifer. Don’t be confused. Yes, Netflix also has a Lucifer show but this is not the same as that. Christie is pretty busy with the streamer nowadays as she’s also in the Wednesday series coming up. There’s also Jenna Coleman as Johanna Constantine. The last name is exactly what you think. She is an ancestor of John Constantine (whether you like the Keanu Reeves or Matt Ryan versions) and an occult detective. Kirby Howell-Baptiste plays Death (toxic fans were upset at a Black woman as Death because…wha?), plus David Thewlis, Charles Dance, Boyd Holbrook, Mason Alexander, Asim Chaudhry, Donna Preston, Stephen Fry, Patton Oswalt, Joely Richards, and Kyo Ra.

It was also confirmed today that Mark Hamill will be the voice of Merv Pumpkinhead. If you don’t know him, well, the name should tell you what he looks like. He’s a shit-talking, chain-smoking janitor with a pumpkin for a head. Hamill will be great for it.
