Will Ferrell Joins Margot Robbie In Greta Gerwig’s Live-Action ‘Barbie’ Film

Of the many attempts to do a Barbie movie, there has always been an A-lister attached to play the most iconic doll in toy history. Anne Hathaway and Amy Schumer were involved in earlier incarnations, while the latest has Margot Robbie. This time, there’s also a great deal of talent behind the camera, as well, with Greta Gerwig directing from a script she’s co-writing with Noah Baumbach, an unexpected duo on this material. There’s star power all around, and now there’s even more with the addition of Will Ferrell to the impressive cast.

THR reports Will Ferrell has joined the stacked comedy cast of Barbie. He joins Robbie, along with Ryan Gosling as Barbie’s handsome boytoy Ken, plus Kate McKinnon, Simu Liu, Alexandra Shipp, Emma Mackey, and America Ferrera. Damn.

Basically, they’re making it impossible to ignore this Barbie movie. Ferrell is a comedic giant, but his big screen roles have been scarce of late. In 2020 he starred in both Downhill and Eurovision Song Contest. He was last seen on the Apple series, The Shrink Next Door, opposite Paul Rudd.

The Barbie film is expected to arrive in 2023.
