‘A Quiet Place’ Spinoff Lands ‘Pig’ Director Michael Sarnoski

It’s taken a while for Nicolas Cage to be considered Oscars-worthy again, but Pig director Michael Sarnoski helped make that happen. The acclaimed drama has been Sarnoski on the map, and now he’s jumping from an indie hit to a studio blockbuster franchise. Deadline reports Sarnoski will direct the next chapter in A Quiet Place, a spinoff that was previously going to be helmed by Jeff Nichols.

There are no details on this new A Quiet Place spinoff other than it’s based on an idea by John Krasinski, who directed the first two movies and starred in the first. A Quiet Place Part II arrived last year after lengthy delays, and it went a long way to expand that universe, one populated by monsters that hunt their prey using sound.  It’s unclear how this next movie will fit, but we know it will not be a direct sequel. So probably don’t expect to see Emily Blunt or other familiar faces.

It’s always a crap shoot when a small indie filmmaker makes this kind of leap. It has worked in the past, Spider-Man director Jon Watts is the most obvious recent example, but there have been plenty who weren’t ready. If this gets more people interested in checking out Pig, which was one of 2012’s best movies, then it’s all worth it.

The A Quiet Place spinoff is currently set for March 31st 2023.
