‘Speed Girl’: Hilary Swank To Play Trailblazing Race Car Driver Janet Guthrie In Biopic

After making Michael Ealy’s life a living Hell in the surprisingly fun erotic thriller Fatale, Hilary Swank has lined up her next project and it’s a lot more wholesome. Swank will produce and star in Speed Girl, playing trailblazing race car driver Janet Guthrie.

Deadline has the news on Speed Girl, which will have Swank starring as Guthrie, a pilot-turned-racecar driver who in 1977 became the first woman to the Indianapolis 500 and the Daytona 500. Of course, she battled sexism along the way in the male-dominated sport, also fighting for women racers to get more corporate sponsorships. She was inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame just a couple of years ago.

Joining Swank as a producer is Avatar actor Joel David Moore, who has turned his talents to filmmaking of late. After directing 2016’s Youth in Oregon, Moore is now in post-production on two features. It’s unclear if he will take the helm for Speed Girl, as well.
