‘She-Hulk’: Why Is Tatiana Maslany Now Denying Reports Of Her Casting?

Um, what is going on with Tatiana Maslany and Marvel’s She-Hulk series? Is she starring as Jen Walters or not? A month ago we learned, from multiple reputable sources, that the Orphan Black star had landed the role of the Marvel powerhouse, but now Maslany is denying those reports to The Sudbury Star.

“That actually isn’t a real thing and it’s like a press release that’s gotten out of hand,” Maslany said. “It’s totally not — I’ve been connected to these things in the past and press has gotten onto it, but it’s not actually a thing, unfortunately.”

“Yeah, I don’t know how these things get — I don’t know, I don’t know,” she added.

This is all very weird. We’ve seen actors deny casting rumors plenty of times, but this one looked rock solid, and normally they don’t get denied when the news has already broken. It’s possible, because we’ve also seen this happen, that Maslany is using this as a negotiating tactic. Perhaps the deal has hit a snag, so technically she’s not wrong or lying. But at the same time, she can use this to get her fans to cause a fuss on social media. I think the reaction to her casting has been pretty good, and Marvel may not want to mess around by signing someone else.
