Disney’s ‘Space Mountain’ Is Becoming A Movie From ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Writer

The first thing I thought of when I heard Disney was making a Space Mountain movie was, “Damn, they’re bringing Ric Flair’s many conquests to the big screen? Nice move, Mouse House!”. Sadly, what THR meant was the amusement park ride, not the Nature Boy’s wild sex life. Damn.

Disney has set Joby Harold to pen a Space Mountain movie, having worked with him on the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series for Disney+. Harold is also the writer on Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead and 2017’s King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.

Space Mountain is different than Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, or Jungle Cruise, all movies based on Disney attractions, in that it doesn’t have any story scenes or anything of the like. It’s an indoor roller coaster with a futuristic theme and was part of Tomorrowland, itself adapted into a failed movie in 2015. The Space Mountain ride was recently renamed Hyperspace Mountain and given a Star Wars theme.

So because there is no story to pull from, Harold will be creating one from scratch. There aren’t any details but it will be a “family adventure” because of course it will.
