Carey Mulligan Joins Bradley Cooper’s Leonard Bernstein Biopic ‘Maestro’

Bradley Cooper’s directorial debut wasn’t just a coming-out party for him as a filmmaker, it was also proof that Lady Gaga could be a top tier actress when given the chance. For Cooper’s followup, a Leonard Bernstein biopic titled Maestro, his co-star won’t have any need to prove herself because she’s already an Oscar nominee: Carey Mulligan.

Deadline reports Mulligan will star opposite Cooper in Maestro, playing Bernstein’s wife Felicia Montealegre Cohn Bernstein. A star of the screen and stage herself, she was married to the legendary composer and conductor for nearly three decades before her death in 1978.  The film will center on Bernstein’s life and career, which includes writing the music for West Side Story.

Mulligan earned her one and only Oscar nomination for her breakout film, 2009’s An Education. Most recently she has starred in Wildlife, Mudbound, and the upcoming revenge thriller Promising Young Woman which is pretty damn great. Can’t wait for people to see that one.

Filming on Maestro begins early next year.
