James Gunn Says New ‘Wonder Woman’ Movie Is In The Works Right Now

James Gunn says a new WONDER WOMAN movie is in the works right now

James Gunn’s DCU has already recast Superman, and Jason Momoa won’t be playing Aquaman anymore. We kind of have an idea where Batman will show, The Brave & the Bold, but what’s up with Wonder Woman? While some fans have hoped Gal Gadot would make the leap and continue on, that’s unlikely to be the case. And as for a new movie? Well, Gunn says that’s in the works right now.

Gunn recently spoke with EW about his upcoming Superman movie, and also dropped some details on Wonder Woman. As for as the Amazonian series set on Themyscira, he said development on that is “slow moving, but it’s moving”, which sounds like it’s still very far away. As for as a new Wonder Woman film? He says that’s “being written right now.”

The previous Wonder Woman films starred Gadot and were directed by Patty Jenkins. The first, released in 2017, was one of the few outright box office and critical hits for he Snyderverse era. The sequel, 2020’s Wonder Woman 1984, wasn’t as well-received and was hampered by the pandemic and a simultaneous release on HBO Max. A third film was in the works with Gadot and Jenkins that was axed when Gunn took over as co-chief of DC Studios. With Momoa taking the role of Lobo, it’s always possible Gadot returns as a different character.

Wonder Woman is part of DC holy trinity. If there are going to be plans for a Justice League film down the line, the character has to be there. Don’t be surprised if we hear rumblings of a rising star actress eyeing a seat piloting the invisible jet.

‘Abraham’s Boys: A Dracula Story’ Trailer: New Joe Hill Vampire Film Follows The Sons Of Van Helsing

ABRAHAM'S BOYS opens on July 11th

With so many Dracula films out there lately, at least filmmakers are trying to tell that story from fresh angles. Take Abraham’s Boys: A Dracula Story, which follows the sons of vampire hunter Abraham Van Helsing as they grapple with their father’s legacy.

The film is based on the short story by Joe Hill, the son of Stephen King and writer of The Black Phone, Horns, In the Tall Grass, and others that have been adapted for the big screen. Abraham’s Boys is directed by Natasha Kermani (Lucky) and stars Titus Welliver, Jocelin Donahue, Aurora Perrineau, Judah Mackey, and Brady Hepner.

SYNOPSIS: Max and Rudy Van Helsing have spent their lives under the strict and overprotective rule of their father, Abraham. Unaware of his dark past, they struggle to understand his paranoia and increasingly erratic behavior. But when they begin to uncover the violent truths behind their father’s history with Dracula, their world unravels, forcing them to confront the terrifying legacy they were never meant to inherit.

Following Nosferatu and Sinners, now is a good time for fans of vampire movies, and you’ve also got Luc Besson’s unhinged Dracula: A Love Tale. Is it too much of a good thing?

Abraham’s Boys: A Dracula Story opens in theaters on July 11th from RLJE Films and Shudder.

‘Eddington’ Trailer: Joaquin Phoenix And Pedro Pascal Have A Pandemic-Era Showdown In Ari Aster’s Latest

Ari Aster's EDDINGTON stars Joaquin Phoenix and Pedro Pascal

Are you ready for another insane Ari Aster film? The pandemic was a crazy time, and you’d have to be crazy to want to go back to it. And yet that’s what Aster has done with his polarizing film, Eddington, which has just dropped a full trailer that’s off the chain.

Starring Joaquin Phoenix, Pedro Pascal, Emma Stone, Austin Butler, Luke Grimes, Deirdre O’Connell, Clifton Collins Jr., and Micheal Ward, Eddington takes place in a small New Mexico town during the COVID-19 pandemic where paranoia and a battle for control have turned the place into a powder keg.

The film premiered at Cannes last month, where it was met with polarizing reviews, which has been the case for Aster films lately.

SYNOPSIS: In May of 2020, a standoff between a small-town sheriff (Phoenix) and mayor (Pascal) sparks a powder keg as neighbor is pitted against neighbor in Eddington, New Mexico.

My impression is that this is going to be a wild showdown in which Phoenix and Pascal are the two main forces. Even with all of that star power surrounding them, it’s going to be those two who command our attention. I’m not a huge Aster fan like some others, but I can’t wait to see this one.

Eddington hits theaters on July 18th from A24.

‘Harry Potter’: Bel Powley, Daniel Rigby, Johnny Flynn & More Join HBO’s Potterverse Series

Bel Powley and Daniel Rigby will play the Dursleys in the HARRY POTTER series

It’s starting to get crowded at Hogwarts again. Warner Bros. is casting up its Harry Potter series reboot for HBO, and filling out the cast that will attempt to breathe new life into the Potterverse characters that became so iconic during the previous movie adaptations.

The newest additions to Harry Potter are Bel Powley as Petunia Dursley, Daniel Rigby as Vernon Dursley, Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy, Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley, Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan, Alessia Leoni as Parvati Patil, Sienna Moosah as Lavender Brown, and Bertie Carvel as Cornelius Fudge.

They join newcomers Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. Taking on the adult professor roles are John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid.

Mark Mylod (The Menu) is directing multiple episodes, with Francesca Gardiner as showrunner. Each season will comprise one of JK Rowling’s books, meaning there will be seven total seasons…assuming audiences buy into this new version. There has been some serious backlash to some of Rowling’s anti-trans rhetoric, and I firmly believe it’s what crippled the once-promising Fantastic Beasts franchise. It could happen here, too. Jonathan Daviss To Play Snoop Dogg In Craig Brewer’s Upcoming Biopic

Jonathan Daviss to play Snoop Dogg in new biopic from Craig Brewer

How high do you have to be to be chosen to play Snoop Dogg in Craig Brewer’s upcoming biopic? We’ll have to ask Outer Banks actor Jonathan Daviss who won the role, according to a new report from Deadline.

Brewer, the filmmaker best known for directing Hustle & Flow, Black Snake Moan, and Coming 2 America, only won the job days ago. An earlier version had Allen Hughes (Menace II Society) attached to direct. Universal Pictures is behind the Snoop Dogg biopic, which will chronicle how Calvin Broadus Jr. became such an integral part of the West Coast hip-hop scene as Snoop Doggy Dogg. Joining with Dr. Dre and Death Row Records, Snoop broke out with his laid back delivery on the 1992 album The Chronic. He would later release his smash debut album, Doggystyle, in 1993. Snoop would later distance himself from the gangsta rap persona that defined his early career, and become more mainstream to the point where you might see him on children’s programming, on WWE television, hanging out with Martha Stewart, or co-hosting the Olympics. His transformation has been wild.

The 25-year-old Daviss is best known for the Netflix YA drama Outer Banks. He was last seen in the Netflix teen comedy Do Revenge.

Universal is cornering the market on films about hip-hop icons, following 8 Mile with Eminem and Straight Outta Compton about Dr. Dre and N.W.A. Snoop has a relationship with NBCUniversal already as a judge on The Voice, and of course, he was a popular figure throughout the Paris Olympics.

‘The Lost Bus’ Teaser: Matthew McConaughey Leads Paul Greengrass’ Wildfire Drama

Matthew McConaughey in THE LOST BUS

As wildfires continue to be one of the most dire threats facing many parts of the country, the new Apple film The Lost Bus chronicles the deadliest wildfire in California history. Paul Greengrass directs Matthew McConaughey in a film based on the 2018 Camp Fire, in which a bus driver must navigate a busload of schoolchildren and their teacher to safety.

Here’s the synopsis: Bus driver Kevin McKay and school teacher Mary Ludwig navigate a bus full of children through a deadly wildfire as the town of Paradise is caught in the destruction and chaos.

Greengrass directed the film and co-wrote the screenplay with Out of the Furnace writer Brad Inglesby, based on Lizzie Johnson’s 2021 book Paradise: One Town’s Struggle to Survive an American Wildfire.

Along with McConaughey, The Lost Bus stars American Ferrera, Yul Vazquez, Ashlie Atkinson, and Spencer Watson. Jamie Lee Curtis and Jason Blum are aboard as producers.

The Lost Bus has yet to gain a release date on Apple TV+ but expect that to change soon.

‘Oh, Hi!’ Trailer: Molly Gordon Has Logan Lerman All Tied Up In New Rom-Com

Logan Lerman and Molly Gordon in OH, HI!

One of the early big tests for any new relationship is that first romantic getaway. Before then, you’re used to seeing one another just when you’re hanging out on dates or whatever. But a getaway demands you be together, all day, for multiple days in a row. It’s like a litmus test to see if you’re meant to be, or just wasting your time. And that’s what Logan Lerman and Molly Gordon are going through in the new rom-com, Oh, Hi!

Debuting earlier this year at Sundance, where our writer Cortland reviewed it, Oh, Hi! stars Lerman and Gordon as a relatively new couple embarking on their first romantic getaway. Of course, it doesn’t go well as he seems unsure about them and she is determined to make it work.

The film is written and directed by Sophie Brooks from a story she cooked up with Gordon. This is Brooks’ second feature after the 2017 Zosia Mamet comedy The Boy Downstairs.

Also in the cast are Geraldine Viswanathan, John Reynolds, David Cross, and Polly Draper.

SYNOPSIS: Iris (Gordon) and Isaac’s (Lerman) first romantic weekend getaway as a couple goes awry. Convinced that he’s just confused, Iris goes to extreme lengths to prove they are meant to be together.

Oh, Hi! opens in theaters on July 25th from Sony Pictures Classics.

‘Ironheart’ Trailer: It’s Technology Vs. Magic In Marvel’s ‘Black Panther’ Spinoff Series

IRONHEART premieres on Disney+ on June 24th with Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams

It’s a battle that Tony Stark has pondered, and even waged, more than once. Who wins in the battle of technology vs. magic? It’s a question that Riri Williams now has to deal with in the upcoming Marvel series on Disney+, Ironheart, which premieres later this month with three episodes.

Dominique Thorne is back as Riri “Ironheart” Williams, introduced in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, where she played a key role. The genius-level MIT student finds herself wrapped up with Anthony Ramos’ The Hood, a criminal mastermind given supernatural powers by the demon Dormammu.

It’s unclear how much impact Ironheart will have on the MCU going forward. With two Avengers movies coming up that are taking precedent, the character has kind of fallen into the background a little bit. I expect that will change whenever Ryan Coogler, a producer on this series, gets around to Black Panther 3. It would be a natural fit for her to be involved in the upcoming Armor Wars movie with Don Cheadle, too.

SYNOPSIS: Set after the events of “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” Marvel Television’s “Ironheart” pits technology against magic when Riri Williams (Thorne), determined to make her mark on the world, returns to her hometown of Chicago. Her unique take on building iron suits is brilliant, but in pursuit of her ambitions, she finds herself wrapped up with the mysterious yet charming Parker Robbins, aka “The Hood” (Ramos).

Also starring Lyric Ross, Alden Ehrenreich, Regan Aliyah, Manny Montana, Matthew Elam, and Anji White, Ironheart premieres on Disney+ on June 24th.

‘The Pickup’ Trailer: Eddie Murphy, Pete Davidson, Keke Palmer & Roman Reigns Star In Prime Video Heist Comedy

THE PICKUP hits Prime Video on August 6th

Eddie Murphy’s career has found a new lease on life in the world of streaming. His last few films, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, Dolemite Is My Name, You People, Candy Cane Lane, and Coming 2 America, have all been available to watch from home, with most of them through his relationship with Amazon. Now he’s back with another film going straight to Prime Video and it’s the heist comedy The Pickup alongside Keke Palmer and Pete Davidson.

The Pickup is directed by Tim Story, the filmmaker behind two Fantastic Four movies, two Ride Along films, and the Think Like a Man franchise. Murphy and Davidson play armored truck drivers who get wrapped up in a dangerous heist led by a criminal mastermind played by Palmer.

Also in the cast are Eva Longoria, Ismael Cruz Cordova, Jack Kesy, Andrew Dice Clay, Marshawn Lynch, and for us WWE fans, the Trible Chief Roman Reigns is here, too.

SYNOPSIS: In the action-comedy The Pickup, a routine cash pickup takes a wild turn when two mismatched armored truck drivers, Russell (Murphy) and Travis (Davidson), are ambushed by ruthless criminals led by a savvy mastermind, Zoe (Palmer), with plans that go way beyond the cash cargo. As chaos unfolds around them, the unlikely duo must navigate high-risk danger, clashing personalities, and one very bad day that keeps getting worse.

The Pickup hits Prime Video on August 6th.
