HBO’s ‘Harry Potter’ Series Now Has Its Trio Of Young Wizards

The Boy Who Lived is now the boy who’s been cast. HBO has found is trio of young stars to play Harry, Ron, and Hermione in its new Harry Potter TV series. Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout are set to lead the upcoming JK Rowling-produced series, following an “extraordinary search” according to producers Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod.

McLaughlin will play Harry, Stanton will portray Hermione Granger, and Stout is Ron Weasley. They each have very big shoes to fill after Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint made that trio iconic in the billion-dollar series of movies. But producers are sure these new kids are up to the task…

“The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen,” they said in a statement. “We would like to thank all the tens of thousands of children who auditioned. It’s been a real pleasure to discover the plethora of young talent out there.”

Previously, HBO announced the casting of John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McConagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Paul Whitehouse as Argus Finch, and Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell.

I hope these kids are ready to have their lives turned upside down. The scrutiny on this new take on Harry Potter, both because of fan intensity and because of Rowling, is going to be on another level. HBO expects the show to arrive in either late 2026 or early 2027.
