It’s About to Get Awesomely Weird on Disney+! Check out the Super Bowl Spot for the Marvel Disney+ Shows!

WHAT. A. TEASE! My God August can’t get here soon enough. Rumor was that a trailer for Disney+’s Falcon and the Winter Soldier was going to drop during the big game, what we got was a look at all three shows on their way, FatWS, WandaVison, and Loki. Falcon (I’m not typing that whole title each time) looks like the Marvel we expect in the most perfect way possible. Opening with a money shot of Sam Wilson getting used to his new shield. Then we cut to WandaVision which looks like something totally new and different, We didn’t get a good enough look to discern the story behind the weirdness, but I have to assume Wanda is trapped in some sort of mental trap, like a mix between the Dormamu scenes in Dr. Strange and the visions she gave the Avengers in Age of Ultron. Lastly there’s a one-shot look at Loki, not much info here but it’s not like we needed to be sold on a show focused solely on everyone’s favorite trickster. I’ll have to watch this a few more times to catch all the little tidbits, specifically Wyatt Russel, who’s playing Cap’s replacement in the Captain America mantle, who we can see for a few frames here and there.

Check it out below and let us know what you think. The shows start dropping in August of this year with Falcon and the Winter Soldier leading the charge

‘F9: The Fast Saga’ Super Bowl Spot Gets Han Back Behind The Wheel

“You’re whole life you’ve pushed yourself to be faster than Dom, smarter than Dom, stronger than Dom, but could you kill him? Because I’m ready if you are.”, Charlize Theron’s incarcerated villain Cipher (who may be getting a spinoff) said in the first trailer for F9: The Fast Saga, which dropped a couple of days ago.

Somebody’s out to kill Dominic Toretto again! Only, this time, that someone is his brother. And that brother is played by…John Cena?? Yeah, I don’t know what DNA possibly has John Cena and Vin Diesel related by blood, but the Fast & Furious franchise asks us to suspend belief in the laws of physics, why not the laws of genetics, as well?

The new Super Bowl spot for F9 aka Fast & Furious 9 is thirty seconds of flipped cars, Diesel mumbling something about risks, and the unlikely return of Sung Kang as Han. Will this story make any sense by the time it’s over? Well, it certainly couldn’t be more nonsensical than Fate of the Furious, could it?

Justin Lin is back behind the camera for F9, which opens on May 22nd!

‘Minions: The Rise Of Gru’ Super Bowl Teaser Brings The Little Yellow Sidekicks Back

So what do you do when the Despicable Me franchise gets surpassed by its spinoff, Minions? You got out of your way to combine the two, and that’s what we’re getting with Minions: The Rise of Gru. Those adorable/annoying little yellow sidekicks are back, meaning the memes will be coming in hot and fast, and they’ll pretty much be unavoidable for a while.

The first Minions earned a franchise-high $1.1B worldwide (!!!) showing the power of this brand. It established that the Minions have existed all throughout human history, serving the most evil person they could find. Eventually, they met up with a young Gru (originally voiced by Steve Carell), and that’s what this latest movie will center on. Of course, we all know that Gru will eventually shed his supervillain tendencies, but we’re not quite there yet.

Minions: The Rise of Gru opens July 3rd. A full trailer arrives on Wednesday!

It’s All Lead to This, Bond Faces All of his Demons in the Game Day Spot for ‘No Time to Die’

I thought the reported three-hour run-time for the upcoming 25th Bond film, No Time To Die, was a bit long….after seeing this I think I’m going to just want more. Bond has never really been one for continuity between films, they’re all pretty much standalone adventures and the change from that is going to end up being the defining gift that Craig’s time as Bond has given to fans. In 30 short seconds we see that everything we’ve seen since Casino Royale has been a build up, in one form or another, to this sure to be epic conclusions to Daniel Craig’s run.

‘Mulan’ Will Bring Honor To Her People In The Disney Film’s Final Trailer

While the 49ers and Chiefs are doing battle on the gridiron, Disney is putting their latest princess warrior in the spotlight.  Disney’s live-action Mulan is a different beast than the animated 1998 film, and this latest trailer, the final one, fills us in on what makes this adaptation so different.

Gone are the musical numbers and dragon sidekick Mushu as this Mulan draws more inspiration from Guo Maoqian’s epic poem. There’s a greater sense of mysticism and family drama, but the epic battles, along with the story of a young girl whose bravery becomes legend.

Behind the camera is Niki Caro, best known for directing Whale Rider, a very similar story in a lot of respects. Starring as Mulan is Liu Yifei, joined by Donnie Yen, Jet Li, Tzi Ma, Gong Li, Jason Scott Lee, and more.

SYNOPSIS: When the Emperor of China issues a decree that one man per family must serve in the Imperial Chinese Army to defend the country from Huns, Hua Mulan, the eldest daughter of an honored warrior, steps in to take the place of her ailing father. She is spirited, determined and quick on her feet. Disguised as a man by the name of Hua Jun, she is tested every step of the way and must harness her innermost strength and embrace her true potential. It is an epic journey that will transform her into an honored warrior and earn her the respect of a grateful nation…and a proud father.

Mulan hits theaters on March 27th.

A Classic Renews It’s Terror in the Super Bowl Spot for ‘The Invisible Man’

I love the classic Universal Monsters, but I’ll be honest and tell you that I’ve never found them scary. This new spot for the upcoming The Invisible Man has me finally understanding just how terrifying the premise behind some of them can be if done right. I don’t know anyone who would list the Invisible man as the scariest of the crew, but I think this film is going make people understand just how terrifying that premise could be, especially when you add the twist of the monster being an ex that isn’t taking no for an answer. Check out the spot below and let me know if you agree, or I’m just being a wuss.

‘Black Widow’ Super Bowl Spot: Natasha Reunites With Her Pre-Avengers Family

Does Marvel really need the added boost of the biggest ratings event of the year? The answer may not be as clear-cut as you think. While there is undoubtedly a great deal of anticipation for Black Widow, there is likely to be a large chunk of fans who are wondering what’s so important about a movie about a dead Avenger. The MCU is all about connectivity, and her story can’t possibly impact the MCU anymore, can it?

So it’s up to Marvel to make this look as cool as possible. The new Super Bowl spot for Black Widow shows us a lot of what we’ve already seen. Scarlett Johansson is back as Natasha Romanoff, with Florence Pugh as her sister Yelena, Rachel Weisz as Melina, and David Harbour as Alexei aka the Red Guardian. This little family of hers, which predates her latter Avengers fam, are all a part of her deadly, tragic past in the Russia’s Red Room. As for the villain after them, Taskmaster, it’s unclear who might be under the mask.

SYNOPSIS: In Marvel Studios’ action-packed spy thriller “Black Widow,” Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow confronts the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises. Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Natasha must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger.

Directed by Cate Shortland, Black Widow opens May 1st.

Turn and Burn! The Super Bowl Spot for ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ is Packed with Angst and Action

The first of the Super Bowl spots and damn they couldn’t have chosen better to set the tone and mood. With every trailer and spot Top Gun: Maverick just looks more and more perfect. This spot doesn’t come with much new footage but it’s still a hell of a watch. I’m really loving the angle their putting on Mile’s Teller who plays the Maverick’s fallen co-pilot’s Son, instead of looking up to Maverick he hates the man from what we can tell. Makes sense, he was flying the plane when his father was killed. Honestly, I’d be totally fine with 90 minutes of Navy propoganda in the form of F-18’s shooting around the sky, the fact that they seem to be adding real emotional weight to the game is a bonus!

Podcast: THE RHYTHM SECTION, Female Action Films, FAST 9 Trailer, Adam Sandler/Netflix, More!

On this week’s show, we’re talking about the Blake Lively revenge thriller THE RHYTHM SECTION, the first non-007 movie from the James Bond producers. Does this increase or hurt the chances of their ever being a female Bond movie? Plus, we’ll talk about the new FAST & FURIOUS 9 trailer, yet another attempt at rebooting THE CROW, Adam Sandler’s new Netflix deal, and more!

Box Office: ‘The Rhythm Section’ Is Out-Of-Step With Just $2.8M, ‘Bad Boys For Life’ Holds Strong

1. Bad Boys for Life– $17.6M/$148M
For three weeks in a row, Bad Boys for Life has claimed the top spot. The long-awaited reunion of Will Smith and Martin Lawrence earned another $17.6M for $148M domestic (a January record for new releases) and a worldwide haul of $244M.
2. 1917- $9.6M/$119.2M
3. Dolittle– $7.7M/$55.2M
The Dolittle nightmare continues. The family-friendly Robert Downey Jr. film actually held decently and earned $7.7M, but that $55M total looks pretty rough with an estimated $175M+ budget, and more stories coming out about the disastrous production. The thing Universal and other studios need to figure out is how to manage risk with a project like this. If the budget was cut in half, things wouldn’t be so bleak.
4. Gretel & Hansel– $6.05M
The first new release on the charts is the generally well-reviewed Gretel & Hansel, a reimagining of the Brothers Grimm fairy tale starring Sophia Lillis (It) and Alice Krige (forever the Borg Queen). The film earned $6M which isn’t great, but word-of-mouth may carry the $5M-budgeted horror into cult status. I saw it last night and thought it was an inventive enough take on the material that United Artists should’ve had faith enough to screen it for press. I guarantee it would’ve had an even better weekend if they had.
5. The Gentlemen– $6.01M/$20.4M
6. Jumanji: The Next Level– $6M/$291.7M
7. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker– $3.1M/$507M
8. The Turning– $3.05M/$11.7M
9. Little Women– $3.01M/$98.7M
10. The Rhythm Section (review) $2.8M
The sad thing about The Rhythm Section is that it was probably hurt by that ridiculous title. It’s simply too confusing, when something simpler would’ve sufficed. What’s even sadder is that it’s a pretty good movie that checks off a number of boxes. First of all, it’s the first non-007 movie from James Bond handlers EON Productions, coming at a time when fans have been clamoring to see the secret agent as a female. Well, this was your chance, and you blew it. The $2.8M debut all but assures they’ll never name an actress to play Bond, even one with the star power of Blake Lively. While our review of the film is definitely negative, personally I dug it as an origin story following a grief-stricken woman out for revenge against those who killed her family. Hopefully, this will find an audience in home release.
