Marvel has promised to use a majority Asian cast for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and so far they’ve lived up to it. Now a new rumor from from a source I’m very unfamiliar with, Murphy’s Multiverse (via CBM) says multi-talented Chinese actress Fala Chen has joined the Kung Fu superhero film.
Chen is a star of the Hong Kong film, stage, and television scene. She’s yet to make much of a mark here in the U.S., but that could be changing as she has a role in HBO series The Undoing alongside Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant. Shang-Chi would be her first American big screen role. It’s possible she’ll be playing MI6 agent Leiko Wu, a close ally of Shang-Chi.
If true, Chen would be joining a cast led by Simu Liu as Shangi-Chi, Marvel’s Master of Kung Fu, Tony Leung as Mandarin, plus Awkwafina and Ronny Chieng in roles that have yet to be confirmed. Destin Daniel Cretton will direct from a script by Dave Callaham.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings opens May 7th 2021.
