Filmmaking duo Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley finally figured out how to make a good Dungeons & Dragons movie with Honor Among Thieves. Fans loved it, and yet it seems only the fans turned out for it. Despite strong reviews, it only made about $200M on a $150M budget. While there has been a lot of clamor for a sequel, the duo aren’t sure it’ll ever happen. But if it does, they’re more than ready.
While at San Diego Comic-Con promoting their upcoming Apple film, Mayday, with Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh, Golstein and Daley revealed that a completed script for Honor Among Thieves 2 is ready if Paramount gives the green light…
“They’re expensive movies to make, but it’d be great fun to do it… We actually wrote a sequel to ‘Dungeons & Dragons.’ We were hired to write it. I don’t know that it will see the light of day for a number of financial reasons. They’re expensive movies to make, but it’d be great fun to do it. We love that cast, and we think we wrote something that fans would like.”
Even if Paramount doesn’t ultimately decide it wants another Dungeons & Dragons, they’ve already handed Goldstein and Daley the keys to a new Star Trek reboot. So maybe if that’s a success, revisiting the world of fantasy role-playing adventures won’t be out of the question. [ScreenRant]
