Richard Linklater and Glen Powell remain attached at the hip. Deadline reports the duo, who already worked together on Everybody Wants Some!!! and Hit Man, will reunite for a biopic on baseball legend Lou Gehrig.
Simon Rich (Artificial) is writing the screenplay. Gehrig is basically a god to New York Yankees fans, known for his incredible streak of 2,130 games played, which earned him the nickname “The Iron Horse.” His 17-year career was cut short in 1939 with an ALS diagnosis, taking his life just two years later at the age of 37. The disease now bears his name.
The most famous retelling of Gehrig’s story on the big screen was 1942’s Pride of the Yankees starring Gary Cooper. It’s such a great film that Hollywood hasn’t really attempted to do another until now.
Both Linklater and Powell have been extremely busy of late, with the latter planning to take a break for a while. Linklater released two films last year, Nouvelle Rouge and Blue Moon. Powell has starred in six movies over the past three years, including The Running Man, How to Make a Killing, and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
So it might be a little while before this Lou Gehrig picture gets rolling, and we might see Linklater tackle something else first.
