Zach Wigon made a splash a few years ago with Sanctuary, an erotic game of cat-and-mouse that helped catapult Margaret Qualley to stardom. Wigon and Qualley were to reunite on his anticipated follow-up, Victorian Psycho, but when she was forced to drop out, Maika Monroe, certainly no stranger to the horror genre, stepped right in. And now we’re getting the first look at the film which has its world premiere later today at Cannes.
Monroe, a veteran of horror flicks It Follows and Longlegs, stars alongside Thomasin McKenzie in Victorian Psycho, from a script adapted by the book’s author, Virginia Feito.
Here’s the synopsis, courtesy of distributor Bleecker Street:
An eccentric governess arrives at a remote gothic manor, where strange happenings stir suspicions that she’s not what she seems.
Also in the cast are Jason Isaacs, Ruth Wilson, Amy De Brúhn, Jacobi Jupe, and Evie Templeton.
Maika Monroe as a mad killer governess? Yes, please.
Victorian Psycho hits theaters on September 25th.
