It was last September when we first learned of a potential DCU teamup movie featuring two of Batman’s toughest foes, Deathstroke and Bane. Now that untitled movie has a frontrunner to direct, and it’s Superbad filmmaker Greg Mottola.
Deadline reports Mottola as the top choice to potentially direct the Deathstroke/Bane movie. That said, you can’t be a frontrunner without others behind you on the list, and others are in the mix as it’s very early days on the project. Matthew Orton (Captain America: Brave New World) is attached to write the screenplay, and that hasn’t been turned in yet.
Mottola has some DCU experience already, having directed episodes of Peacemaker. He’s mostly known for his comedic work with some true classics such as Superbad, Adventureland, The Daytrippers, and Confess, Fletch. I don’t know how he works with a movie about Bane and Deathstroke, who aren’t known as jokester baddies.
The back-breaking Bat-villain Bane has already had moments to shine on the big screen in 1997’s Batman & Robin, then again in The Dark Knight Rises. Deathstroke was briefly seen, played by Joe Manganiello, in the Snyder Cut of Justice League. A planned Deathstroke movie never got off the ground.
