In most sci-fi movies, it’s the journey into space that is filled with wonder, mystery, and danger. But what happens when the traveler returns home from the vastness of space could be just as compelling. Such is the case with Jess Varley’s film, The Astronaut, starring Kate Mara and Laurence Fishburne.
As seen in the new trailer, The Astronaut stars Mara as a woman who is rescued from her first space mision and placed under quarantine due to fears that an alien passenger has returned with her.
The film marks Varley’s feature debut as writer and director. Originally, Emma Roberts was set to star but was replaced by Mara. Also in the cast are Gabriel Luna, Macy Gray, and Ivana Ivana Milicevic.
SYNOPSIS: When an astronaut (Kate Mara) crash lands back to Earth, a General (Laurence Fishburne) places her in quarantine for rehabilitation and testing. As disturbing events unfold, she fears that something extraterrestrial has followed her home.
The Astronaut opens in select theaters and VOD on October 17th from Vertical.
