Mike Flanagan’s ‘The Exorcist’ Adds Laurence Fishburne And Chiwetel Ejiofor

Mike Flanagan is ensuring that his Exorcist reboot is the most star-studded yet. Scarlett Johansson was the first big name attached to the Blumhouse/Atomic Monster/Universal horror, later to be joined by Diane Lane and Jacobi Jupe. The latest additions to the cast are two more Oscar nominees, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Laurence Fishburne.

Flanagan’s film is not a sequel to the 1973 classic The Exorcist, or any of its follow-up movies including 2023’s The Exorcist: Believer. It will tell an all-new story that remains under wraps. Fishburne’s role is unclear, but rumors are Ejiofor will play a former criminal-turned-priest, while Johansson is Jupe’s mother. Best guess is Jupe will be the one possessed by an evil spirit.

Does Fishburne even need an introduction? He’s Morpheus, folks, one of the most important Black characters in sci-fi history. Fishburne didn’t reprise the role in 2021’s The Matrix Resurrections.

Ejiofor was recently seen in Johansson’s directorial debut, Eleanor the Great, and Flanagan’s The Life of Chuck.

Flangan’s The Exorcist hits theaters on March 12th 2027. [Variety]
