James Gunn’s DCU has gotten off on the right foot with Superman soaring at the box office. Okay, so what’s next? That would be the anticipated second season of Peacemaker, and fans at San Diego Comic-Con were treated to a brand new trailer featuring John Cena as the titular ultra-violent hero. There’s just one big problem: the first season concluded in the DCEU, the earlier cinematic universe before Gunn’s DCU was established. How does Gunn plan on correcting all of that?
Based on this footage? Dimensional rifts and alternate universes? This season finds Peacemaker looking to become an actual hero, but to do that he’s going to need a serious redemption arc. That’s going to mean confronting Rick Flag Sr. (Frank Grillo), the father of the man he murdered in The Suicide Squad a few years ago. Or maybe he just skips to another, better parallel world and stays there for good?
Also returning for another round are Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Jennifer Holland, Steve Agee, and Robert Patrick. Of course, we’ve also seen that members of the Justice Gang will be popping up this season, picking up on their introduction in Superman.
One other cool thing about this trailer is that it’s scored to the sounds of the late Ozzy Osbourne. Smooth move, Gunn.
