‘The Batman 2’: Matt Reeves No Longer Attached To Direct, Filming To Begin In March 2026

The Batman: Part II was announced back in 2022, following the $772M success of Matt Reeves’ The Batman with Robert Pattinson. After an initial 2026 date, the sequel was set for October 1st 2027. There hasn’t been much movement since, while Reeves has been reluctant to talk about the subject the more he’s hounded about it. Well, there’s a new update from Production Weekly that is a mixed bag, to say the least, and it clarifies where Reeves stands.

The site says The Batman: Part II is set to begin shooting in March 2026 in London. Good news. Production had originally been planned for late 2025, but there have been delays so that Reeves could perfect the script.

The bad news is that Reeves is only credited as the screenwriter now. He’s no longer attached to direct. Now, this could change, obviously. It has been his vision all along to deliver a trilogy that he’d write and direct. But something has clearly changed to make him back out of the director’s chair.

There have been rumors for months that Reeves is going through something very personal, and it’s what is driving him away. I don’t know what this situation is, nor do I care to know. That’s for Reeves to deal with and to reveal if and when he chooses.

So, where does that leave The Batman 2? Assuming this stands, it’ll need a new director who can carry the visual style that Reeves established. We’ll see what happens next.
