Interview: Frank Grillo Sinks His Teeth Into ‘Werewolves’!

Full disclosure: I’m a really big Frank Grillo fan. Pretty sure I’ve seen every movie he’s done over the last decade or so. As hard as I’ve tried, it’s taken quite a long time to finally get an interview with him for the site, but the wait was worth it because the movie we got him for was Werewolves!  Grillo spends the bulk of the movie gunning down werewolves and talking smack in a kick-ass film that takes this well-worn subgenre of monster flick to another level.

In Werewolves, a supermoon event triggers a latent mutated genre that transforms people into savage lycans. The world lost billions of people the first time it happened, but now with the second supermoon right around the corner, what’s left of humanity are prepared for the worst. And that’s where Grillo comes in, as he must fight through the brutal beasts to save the people he holds dear.

Grillo was a blast to talk with. We talked about a lot of the parallels between Werewolves and The Purge: Anarchy, two movies that have a lot in common other than Grillo being great in both. He stressed the importance of the film’s practical effects and how they add to the frightening quality of the werewolves, and praised director Steven C. Miller’s work behind the camera.

Werewolves is open in theaters now. Check out the interview with Frank Grillo below!
