The repercussions of the #MeToo movement has led to a complete rethink of gender roles and power dynamics in the corporate structure. Hollywood has sharpened focus on this, creating almost a new subgenre of film exploring the topic. The latest, Babygirl, promises to have a lot of eyes on it as it places Academy Award winner Nicole Kidman in a steamy workplace affair with younger, male subordinate.
As seen in the new Babygirl trailer, Kidman is seen heating up the screen alongside The Iron Claw actor Harris Dickinson. She plays a high-powered CEO who enters into a forbidden romance with an intern played by Dickinson. And at least in the footage shown, it’s him who appears to be firmly in control with her completely under his sway.
The film also stars Sophie Wilde and Antonio Banderas.
Behind the camera is director Halina Reijn, known for the horror film Bodies Bodies Bodies. Kidman has made it a point to work with more female directors and she’s living up to that.
A24 opens Babygirl in theaters on Christmas Day.
SYNOPSIS: A high-powered CEO puts her career and family on the line when she begins a torrid affair with her much younger intern.
