It’s going to be tough to avoid Tom Holland over the next couple of years as he keeps adding one blockbuster after another. The latest is American Speed, a race car that Holland will star in alongside another red-hot actor, Austin Butler, for Amazon MGM Studios.
Deadline reports Amazon MGM has won an intense bidding war to acquire American Speed, which centers on the real-life Whittington Brothers, all famous racecar drivers, two of whom were part of the 1980s IMSA scandal, in which a number of drivers were charged with financing their racing activities with proceeds from drug smuggling, money laundering or tax evasion.
The film will have a script by Dan Wiedenhaupt, who wrote the underrated prehistoric adventure Alpha for Albert Hughes. No director is attached yet.
This has been a busy week for Holland, who recently signed on for Christopher Nolan’s summer 2026 movie alongside Matt Damon. He also set his return as Peter Parker in Marvel’s Spider-Man 4 in July 2026.
For Butler, his year has been busy, as well, with roles in Dune: Part Two, The Bikeriders, and Masters of the Air. He’s currently shooting Darren Aronofsky’s new film Caught Stealing, and has completed work on Ari Aster’s latest, Eddington.
