Christopher Nolan’s Next Film Sets Summer 2026 Date, Matt Damon In Talks To Star

After spending most of his career with Warner Bros., Christopher Nolan moved to Universal for Oppenheimer. The film not only earned nearly $1B at the box office, it crushed the Oscars with seven wins including Best Picture and Best Director. So why mess with a good thing? Nolan’s next project is staying at Universal, and now they’ve set a summer 2026 release date and a potential leading man.

Nolan’s untitled 13th movie will hit theaters on July 17th 2026, in IMAX, of course. Matt Damon is reportedly in talks to star in the film, which we know absolutely nothing about because Nolan keeps his story details secret. A rumor put forth by Indiewire says it could be a father-son story, but that’s incredibly vague. You could say that Interstellar was a father-daughter movie, but obviously, it was about a Hell of a lot more than that.

Deadline adds that the plan is for shooting to begin in early 2025, so further casting news could be right around the corner.

This will be Damon’s third time on a Nolan picture, having previously starred in Oppenheimer and appearing in a pivotal Interstellar role. He joins Cillian Murphy and Christian Bale as actors who worked with Nolan three times.
