While Azazel Jacobs may not be a household name, his films have earned a reputation as depicting complicated relationships, sometimes with a darkly comic edge. But more than that, Jacobs always gets the most compelling performances from his stars, my favorite being Tracy Letts and Debra Winger in 2017’s The Lovers. Based on the early buzz for Jacobs’ latest film, His Three Daughters, we can look forward to great things from its trio of stars.
Carrie Coon, Natasha Lyonne, and Elizabeth Olsen star in His Three Daughters, playing estranged siblings who reunite to care for their aging father. And as we see in the new trailer, it’s not going to be an easy reunion.
The film premiered last year at the Toronto International Film Festival, where it received strong reviews, currently holding a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. Netflix quickly moved in to acquire it just a few weeks later.
Also in the cast are Jovan Adepo, Jay O. Sanders, Rudy Galvan, Jose Febus, and Jasmine Bracey.
Here’s the synopsis: This tense, touching, and funny portrait of family dynamics follows three estranged sisters as they converge in a New York apartment to care for their ailing father and try to mend their own broken relationship with one another.
His Three Daughters hits Netflix on September 20th.
