Interview: Kevin Costner Talks ‘Horizon’ Aspirations, Love Of Westerns, And Making Movies For The Fans

Kevin Costner is hoping to make this the summer of the Western. Or more specifically, the summer of Horizon: An American Saga. Opening this week is the first chapter of his frontier epic, which he envisions as a sprawling 4-film series with part two arriving in August. There are two more movies already in the works, and Costner has hopes of a fifth movie, as he shared with me in a recent interview.

In that interview, I spoke with Costner about the long road to making Horizon: An American Saga a reality. We talked about his love of the genre and its themes, of the personal investment he put into this production, and why he chose movies rather than a long-form TV series. We talked about his influences and inspirations, and making movies for the fans who have followed his career literally for decades. The Yellowstone star was candid and excited to talk about Horizon and its potential.

This was a great interview, and thank you to Kevin Costner, someone I truly admire as an actor and filmmaker, for spending the time. Horizon: An American Saga is in theaters now, with chapter 2 arriving on August 16th. You can check out my review here.
