Following the announcement of the title of Rian Johnson’s next Knives Out sequel, Wake Up Dead Man, the lingering mysery was the all-star ensemble he’d put together. The previous two films set an incredibly high bar for star power, and already Johnson is set to match them with the additions of Josh O’Connor and Cailee Spaeny.
What’s On Netflix has confirmed Josh O’Connor and Cailee Spaeny as the first cast members to join Daniel Craig in Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. Plot details on the film are unknown, but Johnson will direct and write the whodunnit film, the third in the franchise and second since it was acquired by the streamer.
We do know that Craig will return as world famous detective Benoit Blanc, and according to the recent teaser this will be his most dangerous case to solve.
O’Connor is on fire right now. The Emmy-winning star of The Crown can be seen currently heating up the tennis court in Challengers, and also in the Irish drama Aisha opposite Letitia Wright. Spaeny is best known for her roles in Pacific Rim: Uprising, Priscilla, and most recently Alex Garland’s Civil War.
Production on Wake Up Dead Man begins next month with a release expected in 2025. So don’t be surprised if casting announcements come fast and furious over the next few days.
