Box Office: ‘Godzilla x Kong’ Smashes Easter Weekend Box Office With $194M Worldwide

  1. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (review)- $80M

Say what you want about Legendary’s decade-old Monsterverse, but fans have yet to grow tired of watching these cinematic titans clashing. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire scored an $80M debut weekend domestically and $194M worldwide. Not only is that the franchise’s second-best opening behind Godzilla‘s $93.1M in 2014, but it’s the second-best weekend of the year behind Dune: Part Two. The Monsterverse has now passed $2B across its five movies, which is all the reason needed to keep ’em coming.

2. Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire– $15.7M/$73.4M

Falling 45% and out of the top spot, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire earned $15.7M for $73M stateside and a worldwide total of $108M. Not great numbers, and we’ll have to wait and see if Sony goes in a different direction next time.

3. Dune: Part Two– $11.1M/$252.3M

4. Kung Fu Panda 4- $10.2M/$151.6M

5. Immaculate– $3.2M/$11.1M

The jury is still out on Sydney Sweeney as a box office draw, but Immaculate suggests she could be one in the near future. The $10M religious horror with a very controversial ending that is being used in promo ads, now has $11M after two weeks. These numbers aren’t huge, but this was a modestly-marketed movie going up against stiff blockbuster competition.

6. Arthur the King– $2.4M/$19M

7. Late Night with the Devil– $2.2M/$6.2M

Buzz for David Dastmalchian’s weird talk show/found footage horror Late Night with the Devil continues to work wonders. The low budget film dropped just 38%, phenomenal for the genre, and now has $6M after two weeks with more theaters adding it to their lineups.

8.Tillu Square– $1.8M

9. Crew– $1.5M

10. Imaginary– $1.4M/$26.2M
