‘High And Low’: Jeffrey Wright Joins Denzel Washington In Spike Lee’s Crime Thriller

Jeffrey Wright’s Oscar-nominated performance in American Fiction didn’t net him the win, but he’s still one of the most sought-after actors in Hollywood. THR reports Wright has joined Denzel Washington and Ilfenesh Hadera in Spike Lee’s remake of High and Low, a remake of Akira Kurosawa’s kidnapping thriller adapted from Ed McBain’s novel, King’s Ransom.

This won’t be the first time Wright and Washington will have worked together. In 2004 they were both in Jonathan Demme’s remake of The Manchurian Candidate. It is, to the best of my knowledge, Wright’s first time in a Spike Lee Joint.

High and Low centers on a wealthy businessman caught in the middle of a kidnapping plot and ransom demand that puts him in a moral quandary.

Lee will direct and co-write the script with Alan Fox and Evan Hunter. This will be his sixth collaboration with Washington but their first since Inside Man in 2006.

Coming up for Wright is a return as Jim Gordon in The Batman Part II. He had a busy 2023, also appearing in Rustin and Asteroid City along with American Fiction. He also appeared in something called Atrabilious that I’ve never heard of before right now.

A24 will release High and Low into theaters before it hits streaming on Apple TV+.
