What rock music biopic could bring together an eclectic mix of musical artists including Donna Summer, Parliament, Gladys Knight, The Isley Brothers, Lindsay Lohan, The Village People, Bill Withers, and KISS? Spinning Gold is that film, which tells the story of Casablanca Records, responsible for all of those bands and a major player during the disco era.
The film is written and directed by Timothy Scott Bogart and based on his father, Casablanca Records founder Neil Bogart. Tony Award nominee Jeremy Jordan plays Neil Bogart, joined by Dan Fogler, Michelle Monaghan, Lyndsy Fonseca, Jason Isaacs, Caylee Cowan, and Vincent Pastore.
But the real draw might be the list of musicians and celebrities playing these icons and performing their songs. Wiz Khalifa plays George Clinton, Jason Derulo as Ron Isley of the Isley Brothers, Pink Sweat$ as Bill Withers, Tayla Parx as Donna Summer, Ledisi as Gladys Knight, Sam Harris as Paul Stanley and Casey Likes as Gene Simmons. Jay Pharoah also has a role as record company exec Cecil Holmes, with SNL comedian Chris Redd as famous disc jockey Frankie Crocker.
Spinning Gold opens in theaters on March 31st 2023.
