D.H. Lawrence’s 1928 novel Lady Chatterley’s Lover was quite the scandal in its time. Banned for obscenity, including the U.S., in multiple places, a fully unedited version of the erotic book wasn’t published in the U.K. until 1960 and sold millions of copies. The book is known for its eroticism and frank discussions of sex. But can it have the same impact today? A new film version is on the way and it’s led by The Crown actress Emma Corrin along with Unbroken star Jack O’Connell.
The film is directed by Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre, her first since 2019’s The Mustang. Not much has changed about the story, which follows the erotic love affair between Lady Chatterley, a woman of high society, and a working-class man that threatens to upset social mores of the time.
Also in the cast are Matthew Duckett, Joely Richardson, Ella Hunt, and Faye Marsay. David Magee, writer of Finding Neverland and The School for Good and Evil, penned the screenplay. He’s been busy lately.
