The Man of Steel is back!
After years of rumors, and arguably the worst kept secret in all of Hollywood, Henry Cavill suited up as Superman to appear in the post-credits scene of Black Adam. The showdown with Dwayne Johnson’s antihero teases a future rumble at a time and place yet to be determined.
However, one thing is for sure. This isn’t just a standalone appearance. Cavill has confirmed he is back as Superman with much more to come…
“I wanted to wait until the weekend was over before posting this because I wanted to give you all a chance to watch ‘Black Adam,’” Cavill said on his Instagram feed. “But now that plenty of you have, I wanted to make it official: I am back as Superman.”
He continued, “Thank you for your support and thank you for your patience. I promise it will be rewarded.”
Cavill first played Superman in 2013’s Man of Steel. That film essentially kicked off the DCEU, but never got a natural sequel. Instead, Cavill returned for 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and then 2017’s Justice League. The latter two films are seen as box office duds, and led to the firing of Zack Snyder. That left Cavill in a tenuous position, as the new regime at DC Films sought to move on from what Snyder created, while fans were eager to see him continue.
Rumors are that Dwayne Johnson used his clout to go over the head of former DC Films chief Walter Hamada to get Cavill back. Who wouldn’t want to see Cavill and Johnson slug it out?
