‘Dallas Sting’: Matthew McConaughey Women’s Soccer Drama Suddenly Scrapped

Back in July we learned Matthew McConaughey had signed on to star in Dallas Sting, an underdog sports drama about a Texas women’s high school soccer team that went to China and challenged some of the world’s best. The film was to be directed by Kari Skogland (Falcon and the Winter Soldier), but with production just six weeks away from starting, the whole thing has been scrapped.

Deadline reports that Dallas Sting has been canceled over misconduct allegations that producers and Skydance were made aware of. This “impropriety” involves aspects of the girls’ uplifting story, and does not appear to be something current. No further details were made available.

McConaughey was set to play The Dallas Sting’s coach, Bill Kinder, with Kaitlyn Dever as his daughter. The script was by Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch, the duo behind Netflix’s hit series, GLOW. The film was being eyed by Apple for possible distribution, but it looks like this project is truly dead and going nowhere.
