Netflix is going through some significant cutbacks right now, but if you thought it meant a reduction in their festival season presence, think again. Today, the Toronto International Film Festival announced its first world premiere, and it’s one of Netflix’s most prominent acquisitions: Rian Johnson’s Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.
There aren’t a lot of details known about the latest mystery for southern-fried detective Benoit Blanc, played again by Daniel Craig. We do know it’ll be set in Greece, and the suspects are played by another set of A-listers that includes Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Jessica Henwick, Dave Bautista, Kate Hudson, Madelyn Cline, plus a cameo by Ethan Hawke.
Released in 2019, Knives Out basically revived the mystery genre, earning more than $300M worldwide. Netflix swooped in with a hefty bid to acquire two sequels with Craig and Johnson both returning, although it remains unclear if there will be a theatrical component to Glass Onion‘s release this holiday season. Perhaps the reception to the film at TIFF will tell us more.
