Was there ever any doubt the Clown Prince of Crime would return? Released in 2019, Todd Phillips’ Joker was a critical darling, winning the Golden Lion at Venice and earning Joaquin Phoenix the Oscar for Best Actor, while also breaking $1B at the box office. A sequel was inevitable despite Phillips pretending it wasn’t a certainty. And well, today is the day that Joker 2 has been confirmed.
Phillips took to Instagram where he revealed the script which he is once again co-writing with Scott Silver. As for the working title, it’s Joker: Folie à Deux, which means “madness for two” loosely translated. Also included was an image of Phoenix reading the screenplay, so obviously he is coming back.

The working title suggests Joker might’ve found someone with a similar madness to his own. Perhaps a family member? Or a lover? Before you start getting ideas of a possible Joker/Harley Quinn romance, it’s not expected that we’ll see any DCEU connections. Then again, who knows? Things are all cattywompus since Warner Bros. Discovery became a thing.
What do you think? Are you happy that Joker is getting a sequel? Who would you like to see in it?
