With shooting on Marvel’s Moon Knight series expected to start next month, we’re seeing the cast start to take shape. While Oscar Isaac has yet to be confirmed, the co-stars expected to surround him are being set. First, we had the addition of Ramy star May Calamawy. And now the next big name to join is Ethan Hawke, who has landed a key villain role.
According to THR, Hawke will play the series’ bad guy in Moon Knight, about super-powered vigilante Marc Spector and his many split personalities. As for Hawke’s role, that’s unknown at this point. Moon Knight doesn’t exactly have the best Rogue’s Gallery around. His oldest adversary is Bushman, a former mercenary and colleague of Spector’s whose betrayal directly leads to the creation of the Moon Knight persona. There’s also Marc’s brother, Randall, aka Shadow Knight, who has essentially the same powers and believes he is the next human avatar of the Egyptian god Khonshu, the same deity that gave Marc his abilities.
Hawke really needs no introduction. He’s been one of the best actors around for years, and has been doing some of his best work in recent years with roles in First Reformed, The Truth, Cut Throat City, Tesla, and Showtime series The Good Lord Bird. Next up for Hawke is a role in Robert Eggers’ The Northman.
This is sorta interesting considering Hawke’s past comments about superhero movies being incapable of greatness, but I guess superhero shows are okay?
The six-episode Moon Knight series is expected to arrive on Disney+ in 2022.
